The cost for the dinner is included in your annual membership dues. If you sign up for the Ethics Forum, there is a special charge of $45, payable on line. The Ethics charge for non-members is $75, plus $50 for dinner. If you choose to attend Forum B, this is included in your annual membership dues. Non-members will pay $10 for Forum B and $50 for dinner. We will be eating a Chicken dish; please mark if you would prefer vegetarian.
If you RSVP and do not attend, there will be a $25 no show charge for members and $50 for non-members as the chapter must pay for missed meals. (The Ethics & Forum B fees cannot be refunded.) If you must cancel your reservation, please do so by noon Friday, May 14, or you will be charged for the dinner. SPECIAL OFFER!! Stephanie Peters, President and CEO of the VSCPA and
Bradford R. Jones, CPA, Chairman of the VSCPA Board, will present a "Professional
Issues Update." We will learn about the latest Virginia and National issues affecting the CPA
profession; discover what the VSCPA is doing to protect and promote the CPA profession;
and hear about the many ways you can be a part of VSCPA success through volunteer participation
in a variety of activities.
Stephanie R. Peters, CAE, is president & CEO of the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), the statewide professional association for CPAs. She leads the VSCPA on national and state professional issues, legislative and regulatory oversight, strategic planning, Board of Directors relations, Board resolutions and policies and external relations. She is also a member of the VSCPA Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Peters was previously the VSCPAs' executive vice president, working on state and national professional issues, leading strategic planning, serving as a liaison with the Virginia Board of Accountancy (BOA) and sitting on a BOA task force to amend the regulations governing CPAs in Virginia. Prior to serving as vice president, she held the VSCPA government relations manager position, where she was actively involved in the drafting, lobbying and passage of the Accountancy Reform Act. Bradford Richard Jones, CPA, CVA, CMA, CFF is a Partner with PBGH, LLP and works out of the firm's Fredericksburg office. He joined the firm in 1988 after graduating from James Madison University with a BBA degree and dual majors in accounting and finance. Throughout his career he has served a wide variety of businesses and not-for-profit clients. He holds a variety of certifications reflective of his broad practice experience and technical skill sets. Much of Brad's professional work is in providing business valuations, financial accounting, auditing, and managerial accounting consulting services, which have included accounting systems design, business modeling, and strategic business planning. Brad has extensive experience working with new ventures including providing such services as entity selection, setting up accounting systems and controls, advising on governance provisions, assisting with obtaining financing and advising on an appropriate capital structure. He frequently works with a client's attorneys on drafting appropriate buy-sell and other agreements. Brad has worked with many clients on succession planning and devising tax efficient exit strategies for retiring owners. Brad has consulted with clients with negotiations and in managing due diligence activities in mergers and acquisition transactions. He has also provided expert witness testimony in contested business valuation cases. Brad is the current Chair-Elect (2009-2010) of the Virginia Society of CPAs and is a member of Council of the American Institute of CPAs. He is also a member of the National Association of Valuation Analysts and the Institute of Management Accountants. He serves as a board member for a number of not-for profit organizations in Fredericksburg, VA and is active in the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce. | |||||||||||||

Explore practical solutions to ethical dilemmas through case study analysis of everyday professional and social situations encountered by CPAs.

In this Forum, we will explore why people commit fraud, what the current enforcement environment is, and how to prevent, detect and respond to fraud.
John Hanson, CPA, CFE is Executive Director of Artifice Forensic Financial Services, LLC. John was a Special Agent with the FBI for nearly ten years, specializing in White Collar Crime and investigated a wide variety of complex fraud schemes. He then spent over five years as a leader in the fraud investigations and forensic accounting practice of a large publicly traded international financial consulting firm, where he focused on helping companies and other entities prevent, detect, respond to and resolve issues associated with fraud or questions of corporate integrity. | ||||||||||||||
