Joyce Wessel Raezer, Executive Director of the National Military Family Association, will discuss this leading nonprofit committed to strengthening and protecting officer and enlisted families in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and NOAA.
As Executive Director, Joyce Wessel Raezer, guides the management of the Association’s programs and initiatives that serve the families of the seven Uniformed Services and that promote improvements in their quality of life. Joyce has represented military families on several committees and task forces for offices and agencies of the Department of Defense and military Services, including the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), the U.S. Army Community and Family Support Center, the Defense Commissary Agency, and the TRICARE Management Activity (TMA). Joyce has served on several committees of The Military Coalition, an organization of 36 military-related associations. She was co-chair of the Coalition’s Personnel, Compensation, and Commissaries Committee from 2000 to 2007. From September 1999 to December 2000, she was a member of a Congressionally-mandated Federal Advisory Panel on DoD Health Care Quality Initiatives. From June 1999 to June 2001, Joyce served on the first national Board of Directors for the Military Child Education Coalition. In 2004, she authored a chapter on “Transforming Support to Military Families and Communities” in a book published by the MIT Press, Filling the Ranks: Transforming the U.S. Military Personnel System. She has been a member of the TriWest Healthcare Alliance Executive Advisory Board since 2007. Joyce was the 1997 recipient of the Association’s Margaret Vinson Hallgren Award for her advocacy on behalf of military families. She also received the “Champion for Children” award from the Military Impacted Schools Association in 1998. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

IFRS Update
IFRS Update - In this timely session, take an in-depth look at how the convergence project from Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is progressing, including a discussion of where the project stands. We’ll cover the differences between IFRS & US GAAP as well as some coverage of the history regarding the IASB. We’ll close with some discussion of reporting differences. This is a great forum for anyone trying to keep up with changes in the accounting profession.

Come to the tax committee session and learn from our own Andy Golkow of Rees Broome, PC, the must knows of how to “Prevent the Possible Ugly of S Corps” – what protections you need to help your clients have in place when a shareholder wants to leave or some shareholders want others out, what protections need to be in place when a shareholder dies. Andy will fill us in on tax planning that should be done in shareholder agreements and buy sell agreements. He will also provide a brief update on current S Corp legislation.

This presentation has been featured at the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts events and will cover the exit planning process and potential challenges, in addition to the role of the CPA in exit planning.
Enrique Brito, MBA, CFA, AVA, CM&AA, CMAP, is a partner and senior managing director of The McLean Group, a middle market investment bank, and a principal and founder of Kaizen Consulting Group, LLC (KCG), a merger and acquisition advisory firm based in McLean, Virginia. He focuses on assisting owners of privately held businesses in the middle market sector in how to measure, enhance and harvest the value in their businesses, particularly in situations involving acquisition and divestiture transactions. His primary expertise is with high technology companies, particularly in the software and telecommunication sectors. Mr. Brito has over fifteen years of experience in corporate finance and has been involved in transactions in the U.S. and in several Latin American countries including Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and Peru.
