TESTIFYING AS AN EXPERT WITNESS: TRUTH, TRUST, AND BELIEVABILITY
While the topic at hand centers on Testifying as an Expert, the session will start with a discussion of concepts around minimizing the need for litigation. The speaker feels strongly that it is in the interest of all parties involved to resolve matters without the need for litigation. Once it is established that litigation is necessary, the speaker will provide introductory coverage of Testifying as an Expert by helping you:
Explore some of the basic elements and common pitfalls of expert and fact witness testimony; Learn key elements of how to improve your chances of being believed; Become familiar with what it takes to level the testifying playing field to get to the truth, and present it in a believable and convincing manner . Paul G. Leiman, JD, an attorney and principal of KeyWitness Consulting, works with financial institution associations, corporations, and law firms on matters including litigation services, and regulatory and ethical governance. Previously, he had served as both a trial lawyer and administrative counsel at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and had spent two years in a general practice law firm. As a longtime advocate of legal and compliance education for non-lawyers, Mr. Leiman has been recognized for his work in creating the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council's Testifying School for federal bank examiners and regulators. He continues to serve as a lecturer on the enforcement process for federal and state regulators directly as well as in collaboration with associations such as the Conference of State Bank Supervisors.
