President's Letter
Dear Members,Welcome back! Another busy season behind us and we can all kick back a little and enjoy a reasonable pace for a few months. The word that I hear from many of you was that tax season was particularly rough this year, due to increasing complexity in the Federal tax forms and increased volume of automated IRS notices. Figuring out how to effectively manage the compression of work during tax season is always a challenge.
I am truly honored that you have chosen me as your President of the Northern Chapter for the coming year. I have been an active member since shortly after passing the CPA exam in 1997, and have found the Northern Chapter to be the most valuable resource in my professional toolkit.
It is my hope in the coming year that the Northern Chapter will be able to provide you with tools to help you manage your professional responsibilities. To that end, the Board of the Northern Chapter intends to provide high-quality CPE opportunities at our monthly meetings with hot-button topics in areas of auditing, government contract accounting, technology, professional responsibilities, not-for-profit issues, and of course, tax practice issues.
We also want to provide additional opportunities through our committee meetings to network with professionals in your specific area of expertise. I encourage all of you to check out our committees and attend these meetings. The small group sessions are a great way to get answers from fellow CPAs to some of your toughest questions.
Our May Northern Chapter meeting will be the first of the new fiscal year, but is also our last before our summer break. In July we have a working session for anyone interested in helping to develop our chapter’s long range plans. Please keep watch for an invitation to participate in this important work. In September we meet back again at the Fairview Park Marriott with a full load of CPE topics. Be on the watch also for another all-day accounting conference co-sponsored with George Mason University in October.
